Fort McMurray Fires – 100 Men YEG

May 12, 2016

Friends,

The wildfire in Fort McMurray is an unprecedented disaster that has captured the attention and hearts of every Edmontonian. It’s been heartbreaking to watch families and friends from Fort McMurray deal with the fire, and incredible to YEG, Alberta, and Canada step up to help. We know many of you have taken advantage of the Alberta and Canadian government’s decision to match all donations to the Canadian Red Cross (https://t.co/xa0TIyfAy8). For that, please accept an enormous thank you from all of us at 100 Men YEG.

If you have already given to the Red Cross but want to do more, we would like to provide a suggestion. Keeping with our local focus at 100 Men YEG, we encourage you to consider giving to local Fort McMurray charities. Charity Intelligence Canada (CIC) reports that in previous disasters like the Alberta Flood of 2013 less than 2% of donations to the Red Cross flowed through to local charities. Below are just a few of the charities that Charity Intelligence Canada mentions. The full list is here: https://www.charityintelligence.ca/fort-mcmurray-fires

Last but not least: Please do not forget the commitment that we are have all made to support WECAN Food Basket Society this quarter. As Charity Intelligence Canada mentions, there are many Edmonton charities that have had to ramp up and we need to ensure that we support WECAN with their food baskets to families that need them.
